Google Chrome - soon to become OS!
Google intends revolutionize the PC operating system market with the proposed Chrome OS slated for release in late 2010. It is going to be a paradigm shift from the existing operating system which is loaded on to your PC first and boots the machine every time you switch it on. Google Chrome OS is going to be browser centric i.e. the operating system itself is going to web based and the user will require special hardware, a Chrome OS device which will act as complimentary to main machine. All applications are going to be web applications and they will be stored online with local memory being used as a cache.
Here are ten killer reasons why you would want to switch to Google Chrome OS as and when it is released:
- Google Chrome OS is going to be based on “open source” concept like Linux meaning the OS itself will be free of cost but the user may have to pay for any support etc.
- The OS is expected to have speed, simplicity and security as the key aspects. It is expected to be fast and lightweight with quick start up in a few seconds. Of course the speed would depend on the type of internet connection that you have.
- Google Chrome OS will be highly secure putting an end to the problem of malware, viruses etc.
- The OS will run on both Intel’s x86 chips as well as ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) chips which would include many netbooks to be released over next year.
- You can reach your emails almost instantly without waiting for the system to boot up.
- No need to configure the computer when you change your hardware or update the software every now and then.
- You need not backup your files or worry about hardware crashes.
- You can access your files from virtually anywhere; all you need is reliable internet connection. You only need to carry a lightweight netbook with you when you are on the move.
- The desktop as we know today will no longer exist and so is Windows OS but the Chrome OS may take many years to completely replace the latter. Thus we will have a real alternative to Windows which is good for all consumers.
- All the present day applications like Photoshop etc. will have to be converted as web apps but once it is done you will have access to the latest version of wide variety of applications.
