HP were slow to catch onto the small and lightweight laptop market. Now they are producing some great, affordable notebooks which we review here.
With a new thin and lightweight design, the 12.1-inch HP DV2-1010 small laptop is highly portable without compromising on performance. The laptop is powered by AMD Athlon Neo processor (1.6GHz clock speed, 512KB cache). It has 1GB, DDR2 SDRAM main memory and 160 GB SATA hard drive. With dimensions of 11.5 x 9.5 x 1.3 inches and 3.8 lbs weight, the laptop is lightweight and compact.
The display is 12.1 in LED widescreen with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. The graphics is handled by Integrated Radeon X1250 processor and the image quality is superb. One of the drawbacks of this lightweight laptop is that there is no internal CD/DVD drive like other laptops of comparable size.

The HP TX 2130 laptop is part of the TX 2000 range of ultra portable laptops from the HP stable. It has a swivelling 12″ HD widescreen monitor with touch screen display and a built-in digitizer for handwriting. The lightweight laptop is run by AMD Turion 64X2 Processor TL60 with 2 GHz CPU speed which is a 64 bit, dual core processor. The main memory is 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. With overall dimensions of 12 x 8.8 x 1.5 in and 5.5 lbs weight, the laptop is very light and portable. The hard disk has a capacity of 250 GB – Serial ATA-150 – 5400 rpm. The optical storage is through a DVD±RW drive.

The HP TX 2050 laptop known as TX 2000 outside Europe is an upgraded version of the earlier TX 1000 model. It has a rotating screen, an active stylus pen and an upgraded processor. The laptop is powered by AMD Turion 64X2 Processor TL60 with 2.1 GHz CPU speed. It is a 64 bit, dual core processor. It has 2GB, 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, as memory like many other comparable laptops. With dimensions of 12 x 8.8 x 1.5 in and 4.4 lbs weight, the system is lightweight and portable. The hard disk has a capacity of 160 GB – Serial ATA-150 – 5400 rpm and Hitachi make. The optical storage is through DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM that permits burning of DVDs.
