Presently in the developing and ultra testing stage, Jollycloud is an operating system based on Linux. One Mr. Tariq Krim based in Paris is the founder of this project. Debian and Ubuntu 9.04 are the ones it is built upon, but for lower level computers with weaker specifications like screen size, disk storage and memory space, it has been designed accordingly, which means that low end net book machines can easily run this application which is based on Mozilla Prism packages.

Even though net books haven’t exactly adapted or served the purpose of replacing a laptop or a personal computer totally, they have still been a rage since their introduction in the market. It ideally fits into a family environment where for e-mail, internet, etc. each individual has a separate notebook. Another basic requirement for this to happen would be a central computer for performance and reliability. A Windows OS may not be the ideal usage support for such an application because the screen size is extremely small and the RAM size isn’t effective enough.

Jolicloud is trying to fit in this exact same space. It is a relatively new system developed specifically for net books. The desktop OS resembles that of a high tech phone with fairly large icons that straightaway lead to the primary programs and web pages like Google, E-mail, RSS feeds, which instantly works as its standout feature. There is not much to be done on a net book. Hence it only consists of only the basic things, and puts them all up on the home screen accompanied by certain excellent search tools and tabs.

Based on the app idea, innumerable apps can be put to use on the desktop even if they are web dependent. For instance, the desktop instantly makes Wikipedia and Gmail available. For social requirements, Twitter and Facebook are also available.
