netbook-sales-growIn the technological world the small, sleek and slender always draws more attention. When the Netbook was launched about a year ago, it drew immediate attention and got a great response. A portable version of the notebook, the netbook is designed to access internet and handles wireless telecommunication.

The first note was the original Asus Eee PC 701. In less than a year, it has undergone countless enhancements. Brands like HP, Acer, and MSI Wind are already marketing the product. New players like Dell and Lenovo will be soon hitting the market with their version of the netbook, which is also known as WorkingPoint.

According to Computerworld, the sale of netbooks will be doubled this year, bringing the figure to around 32.7 million. The growth is around 99.1% as compared to the last year. In comparison to that, the laptop sale has been more or less the same as last year and the forecast says that graph is likely to remain flat. Interestingly, the numbers of laptops sold in the last year are more in contrast with the real numbers of netbooks sold. However, since the growth pattern of this new device points upwards, it is a clear indication that buyers are attracted to the light weight feature.

John F. Jacobs of DisplaySearch says that even though people prefer the light weight gadget, a bigger display is still the priority. His research shows that the Netbook has created a new market for itself but will not replace the laptop, instead will be used as a secondary tool. The features it currently offers are limited in direct comparison with the notebook.

In a world where perception plays a vital role, the Netbook today enjoys the media limelight as its new baby. The notebook market, however, due to lack of new numbers, is currently being neglected as the been-there-done-it story.
